Katra Hamilton VMD

About Katra Hamilton

Dr. Katra Hamilton, a New England native, has lived throughout Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Massachusetts. Growing up in this beautiful region, she embraced a love for outdoor adventures like skiing, sailing, hiking, and camping, all while nurturing a deep empathy for animals in need. This connection to animals eventually led her to pursue a career in veterinary medicine, though her journey to this field was unconventional.

Dr. Hamilton began her academic journey at Bentley University, where she earned both an undergraduate and a master’s degree in accountancy while working full-time at a large accounting firm in Boston. Despite her success in the business world, her passion for animals never waned. During this time, she became actively involved in rescuing cats, some of which required frequent trips to the veterinarian. Her growing interest in animal care was further fueled when she met her now-husband, Andy, who worked in the veterinary field. This encounter helped her realize that her true passion lay in veterinary medicine, as she found herself more interested in veterinary literature than in the latest accounting bulletin. Motivated by this newfound direction, Dr. Hamilton returned to school to pursue a post-baccalaureate program at the University of New Hampshire, followed by veterinary school at the University of Pennsylvania, where she earned her VMD in 2023.

Now, as a dedicated veterinarian, Dr. Hamilton is passionate about helping animals and guiding pet owners through the complexities of modern veterinary care. At home, she and Andy are proud “fur parents” to three cats—Danny, Jinx, and Maddie—their dog, Jack, and a betta fish named Geralt. The couple also rescued a miniature Shetland pony named Ted, who serves as a fond reminder of Dr. Hamilton’s time in veterinary school.

Outside of her professional life, Dr. Hamilton continues to enjoy the outdoor pursuits that first captured her heart, including hiking, skiing, sailing, swimming, running, and practicing yoga, always with a cup of tea in hand. She and Andy are thrilled to have finally settled in the White Mountains, a region that has long held a special place in their hearts.
